After a long break, we finally recorded a podcast. Scheduling issues as well as health issues were the main culprits. We sat down and had a chat about how we record guitars, and some discussion on live sound. Dan was on the phone, while Bill and Steve were in studio. A couple times, calls came in to Steve's phone, so you'll hear a few beeps. Pretty annoying, and we won't let that happen again. Just have to Google how to turn off call waiting for next time.
Steve sat down with Tony and he presented his unique story, and his exposure to the highs and lows of the music industry. We also took a look at how he can take his raw emotions, and translate them to a catchy hook with his current band, Tony Ortiz & the Guns of Soul. Click on the link to get his current schedule - catch them at Roma's and Parley Lake Winery
The whole gang sat down with Atom Fuel, the lead singer and guitarist for New Defective. We talked about how he wrote and recorded the songs for the debut album, “Dangerous Effects Of First Cause”, and his approach to making an album.
This episode, Steve made the trek up north to visit with Mike Bjerke and Chris Johnson of Bjerke & the Ripsters (bjerkeandtheripsters.com). We talked about their starts in music, their first instruments, and which rock stars flipped them the bird. We also talk about songwriting and how they created the songs on the 3 Ripster albums, which are available on all streaming platforms. Click HERE to book them for a show.
Bill and Steve interviewed Brett on song ideas, the music landscape of today and how to market your band, and the value of a good producer. Definitely check out Fuzzrd's debut album, "Near Life Experience" on Fuzzrd.com, or any of your streaming platforms. The CD has a booklet with lyrics, so that's a value right there.
Dan & Steve sat down with Eric Menge, a guitarist, songwriter, and member of the band Blue Rain. He discussed his start in music, his education at Berklee, and a general description of his creative process. Check Blue Rain out on FB: Blue Rain Soundcloud: Blue Rain Soundcloud Also check out Dan's duo project, who are playing at Just Na's in Ellsworth, WI on New Years Eve, and Jumpin' Jacks in North Branch on Jan 1. We sat down with all three members of The Rumours, a great band out of Waterloo, IA. They were willing to share some of their methods of songwriting, and a view into life as a rock band. Check them out on the road, as they put on a high-energy show. This was recorded in the green room of 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis, where they were playing on a bill with Rebel Queens and Hotel Caviar. Our initial podcast - introducing Bill, Dan & Steve, and some general discussion of our goal for this podcast. We plan on discussing the art of songwriting, from different perspectives. And then some of the other topics that we plan on delving into on future podcasts. Please feel free to contact us at input@themusicprocess.com
As musicians and songwriters, we are curious about how other musicians create their works. That's our goal. Give artists a platform to talk shop, as it were. If we can learn something new, perhaps you will too.
